2nd Congressional District Candidates Debate In St. George

(St. George, UT) -- The only debate in Utah's 2nd Congressional District race is over. Republican incumbent Celeste Maloy and Democratic challenger Nathanial Woodward met this week for a debate at Utah Tech University. The two spoke about several topics, including public lands, immigration, and abortion. Maloy is seeking her first full term in the seat, having taken the seat following Chris Stewart's resignation last year. The 2nd Congressional District covers a wide swath of southern and western Utah, including St. George and Cedar City.

Wrong-Way Collision Leaves Two Dead In Millard County

(Millard County, UT) -- Two people are dead and two others were seriously injured in a wrong-way collision yesterday on I-15 near the I-70 interchange in Millard County. The Utah Highway Patrol says the accident led to the closure of all northbound lanes near the interchange. Those lanes of traffic have since reopened. Authorities didn't say how many cars were involved in the crash or how serious the injuries were for the survivors.

Salt Lake City Police Arrest 102 in 30-Day Operation

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- The Salt Lake City Police Department announced 102 arrests in a month-long enforcement operation along the Jordan River Trail from September 14th to October 14th. The operation resulted in 48 felony and 54 misdemeanor arrests, along with 183 traffic stops and 64 citations. Officers seized various drugs, including fentanyl, heroin, and methamphetamine. Police Chief Mike Brown emphasized the commitment to enhancing safety in the area through increased patrols and community outreach. The Pioneer Patrol Division and other units participated in the operation, which also focuses on environmental design to deter crime.

Utah Seen As Average For Political Engagement

(St. George, UT) -- Utah is in the middle of the road when it comes to political engagement. That's according to a new study by finance website WalletHub, which looked at ten key indicators of political engagement to determine the rankings. Those include voter registration & laws to the percentage of people who voted in recent elections, to political contributions. The Beehive State ranked 29th overall on the list. Numbers were also similar when breaking down political engagement by age groups, such as 18 to 24 year olds and the elderly.
