A seven-year NASA mission ends Sunday when a capsule parachutes into the Utah desert carrying samples collected from an asteroid named Bennu. Osiris Rex launched in 2016 then orbited the asteroid Bennu for nearly two years.

Principal investigator Dante Lauretta says the probe quickly touched Bennu, collected an eight-ounce sample of the asteroid and has spent three years making its way back to Earth. The sample will help scientists understand how planets formed in the earliest days of the universe.
