Cedar City Hosts 5th Annual Wreaths Across America Tribute
Cedar City will join nearly 4,000 communities nationwide in honoring military veterans during the 5th annual Wreaths Across America tribute. The heartfelt event is set to take place on Saturday, December 14th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Cedar City Cemetery. This patriotic gathering offers residents an opportunity to pay homage to those who have served, remembering their sacrifice, dedication, and unwavering patriotism.
This year, 1,300 live balsam wreaths will adorn the gravesites of veterans, each wreath a hand-tied reminder of the heroes who fought for our freedoms. The event will feature a color guard presentation, a ceremonial wreath presentation honoring each branch of the military, remarks by Cedar City Mayor Garth Green, music, bagpipes, and a moving performance of "Taps."
Cedar City’s participation in Wreaths Across America reflects a broader mission spearheaded by the Wreaths Across America program, a national nonprofit founded in 2007. With its roots in a modest tradition begun in 1992, when Maine-based wreath maker Morrill Worcester arranged for surplus wreaths to be placed at Arlington National Cemetery, the program has grown into a powerful movement of remembrance. Each December, millions of volunteers work together to place wreaths at veterans’ gravesites across the U.S. and abroad, embodying the organization’s motto: “Remember, Honor, Teach.”
The local effort has been made possible through the generosity of donors and volunteers who embody the spirit of community. Cedar City organizers extended special thanks to Red Acre Farm for donating ceremonial wreaths and the Bald Eagle Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for spearheading fundraising efforts.
However, more contributions are needed to fully meet the program’s goals. Each wreath costs $17, and donations of any amount are welcome. Those wishing to support the cause can mail checks payable to “Bald Eagle Chapter DAR” to 126 S. 2050 W., Cedar City, UT 84720, or drop off contributions at City Hall (10 N. Main Street) in Councilman R. Scott Phillips’s box.
As Cedar City gathers to honor its heroes, this annual tradition underscores the community’s commitment to remembering its veterans and teaching future generations about the sacrifices that have secured our freedom. All are invited to attend this moving event and join in a shared moment of reflection and gratitude.
