Cedar City Music Arts Presents The Kruger Brothers Tonight
Cedar City Music Arts continues its 96th season tonight with a highly anticipated performance by the Kruger Brothers Quartet at the Heritage Center Theater. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and marks the fifth of six events in the 2024-2025 season.
Uwe Kruger joined Marty Warburton, a Cedar City Music Arts board member, on the Big Picture Morning Show on KSUB Tuesday morning to share the story behind tonight’s performance. Originally from Switzerland, Kruger explained that his love for American folk and bluegrass music began through shortwave broadcasts of the Voice of America. “There was nothing better than to listen to Bill Monroe… the music was designed for that kind of frequency,” Kruger said during the radio interview.
Influence of Doc Watson
Kruger moved to North Carolina 25 years ago to be closer to legendary guitarist Doc Watson, who became both a mentor and collaborator. He noted the deep influence Watson and other bluegrass pioneers had on his musical path. “I’ve been doing this since 1968… my brother is one of the most accomplished banjo players in the world,” he added.
The Kruger Brothers’ return to Utah is part of a western tour that includes stops in Idaho and Arizona. Warburton emphasized the rarity and significance of this visit, saying, “I saw the Kruger Brothers were coming out West… and I said yes, they’d be good for Cedar City Music Arts.”
Iron County School District Students Get Up Close Performance
In addition to tonight’s public concert, the group also performed for hundreds of local schoolchildren during a special matinee presentation. “What a great opportunity for them to see music made… not hear it over the earbuds, but to see it right in front of their eyes,” Warburton said.
Tickets and details are available at www.cedarcitymusicarts.org and on the organization’s Facebook page. With strong attendance throughout the season, Warburton noted that walk-up ticket sales are a key measure of success: “We just need to let the right people know about it.”
