Cedar City Ready To Dance And Party At Annual ‘Spring Swing Thing’ Saturday
Southern Utah University’s Department of Music is excited to announce the highly anticipated Spring Swing Thing, featuring the SUU Jazz Ensembles. Scheduled for this Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbert Great Hall of the R. Haze Hunter Alumni Center on SUU’s campus, this event promises an exhilarating fusion of live jazz music and dance, offering an unforgettable experience for all attendees.
The evening kicks off with complimentary dance lessons provided by Toni & James Sage, beginning at 7:00 p.m., allowing participants to immerse themselves in the lively world of swing dancing. At 7:30 p.m., the dance floor opens alongside the stellar performance by the SUU Jazz Ensembles.
Originally conceived in 2018 by Toni and James Sage, along with Dr. Adam Lambert, Director of Bands at SUU, and SUU’s Community Education department, the Spring Swing Thing has evolved into a beloved tradition for Cedar City’s social dancers. Regardless of one’s dance experience, it offers a valuable opportunity to explore swing and foxtrot while enjoying the music.
Dr. Lambert expressed excitement about the event, highlighting its significance for both the community and student musicians, providing valuable performance experience. Admission to the Spring Swing Thing is free, making it an ideal date night for students and community members, with donations welcomed to support the SUU Department of Music's initiatives.
The event is made possible through collaborative efforts between the SUU Department of Music, the Southern Utah University Student Association (SUUSA), and the SUU Student Involvement & Leadership office, reflecting the university’s commitment to enriching Cedar City’s cultural landscape.
