As the Forsyth Fire continues to expand in Washington County, a special meeting has been scheduled for the residents of Pine Valley and Grass Valley this evening. Officials are urging the general public to allow space for those directly impacted by the wildfire. The meeting will provide important updates and guidance. For those unable to attend, a recording will be posted to the Dixie National Forest Facebook page shortly afterward.

The Forsyth Fire, sparked by lightning on June 19 near Pine Valley, has now grown to 7,045 acres and remains 0% contained. Over 280 personnel are working the fire, with a focus on public and firefighter safety, protection of structures, and containment objectives. The fire continues to burn within the Pine Valley Wilderness Area on both the northeast and southwest flanks, where crews are limiting mechanical equipment to reduce environmental impact.

Decreased Winds Sunday Allowed Air Operations To Continue

Yesterday, aerial efforts successfully dropped fire retardant on a ridgeline near an old burn scar to slow the fire’s spread. Ground crews also made significant progress, mopping up hot spots up to 100 feet behind threatened structures. Firefighters have been constructing a containment handline from the valley floor toward Water Canyon, where it will connect with a dozer line being cut from the north.

Despite a brief reprieve in weather conditions, fire behavior remains aggressive due to extremely dry fuels, low humidity, and shifting winds. Today, winds are expected from the southwest at 15–20 mph, increasing fire activity on south-facing slopes. With hot, dry conditions forecast to intensify through the weekend, officials warn that the potential for critical fire weather remains high.
