Discover Cedar Breaks: New Visitor Contact Station Opening Soon!
On August 22, 2024, Cedar Breaks National Monument will celebrate the grand opening of its newly constructed Visitor Contact Station, a significant addition made possible by the National Park Service-Centennial Challenge Program, the Zion National Park Forever Project, and the unwavering support of Iron County. This modern facility marks a pivotal moment in the history of Cedar Breaks, as it is designed to enhance the visitor experience by providing an immersive and educational introduction to this unique landscape.
In a press release, Cedar Breaks Superintendent Kathleen Gonder expressed her enthusiasm for the new building, emphasizing its importance in connecting visitors to the monument. “This building gives us a sense of place. It helps visitors orient to this landscape and realize its value as a national monument,” Gonder said. She also extended heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in making the Visitor Contact Station a reality, acknowledging the collective effort that brought this dream to fruition.
The new Visitor Contact Station is not just a building but a gateway to the wonders of Cedar Breaks. It will serve as a year-round resource, welcoming visitors with an expanded open season and offering a wide range of educational and interpretive opportunities. Unlike the previous Information Center housed in the historic 1937 cabin, which will now focus on the area's rich human history through a self-guided interpretive area, the new facility is equipped to host a variety of ranger-led programs and activities that cater to diverse interests.
Visitors can look forward to engaging in dark sky resources, learning about the monument's renowned wildflower events, exploring interpretive exhibits, and visiting the park store, all under one roof. The building is designed to be a hub of activity and learning, providing a deeper understanding of Cedar Breaks' natural and cultural significance.
The opening day festivities will commence at 10 a.m. at Point Supreme Overlook, where various booths supported by park partners and neighboring parks will be set up. The dedication ceremony, scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m., will formally introduce the Visitor Contact Station to the public. Both media and visitors are invited to join the celebration and explore this new addition to Cedar Breaks National Monument. For further details, interested individuals are encouraged to visit the Cedar Breaks website.
This new Visitor Contact Station not only symbolizes progress but also reinforces the commitment to preserving and interpreting the natural and cultural heritage of Cedar Breaks for generations to come.
