The Walter Maxwell Gibson College of Natural Sciences at Southern Utah University invites students, faculty, and the community to its annual Research Symposium on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 5:30 PM in the Hunter Alumni Center’s Great Hall. This highly anticipated event showcases scientific innovation and discovery, with cutting-edge research presented by SUU students and faculty.

The symposium will open with a keynote address by Dan Hermansen, an SUU College of Natural Sciences alumnus from 2012. Hermansen’s remarkable career journey spans healthcare roles at Primary Children's Hospital and the University of Utah Medical Center, where he cultivated a passion for medical visualization. Pursuing this interest further, he earned a Master’s degree in Biomedical Visualization from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2017. Today, Hermansen is the Director of Clinical Design at Osso VR, where he leads the world’s largest team of medical illustrators in developing virtual reality (VR) surgical training. His keynote promises a deep dive into the future of medical education and the transformative role of VR.
