Emergency Room Expansion Announced By Cedar City Hospital President
Cedar City Hospital is undergoing major expansions to better serve the growing community, according to hospital President Jamison Robinett. Speaking on the radio with KSUB, Robinett highlighted two major projects: an emergency room expansion and upgrades to the hospital’s cancer center.
The emergency room will see a 5,000-square-foot expansion, adding nine new rooms. “This is out of necessity,” Robinett said on the radio. “Healthcare is getting harder, and access to healthcare can always be a challenge. We’re seeing increased volumes and increased sickness in our hospital, and these additional rooms will allow us to more comfortably care for these patients.” He noted that this is the first major physical expansion at the hospital since 2006, despite the community nearly doubling in size since then.
Another significant upgrade is happening in the hospital’s cancer center. Previously, cancer detection services relied on a mobile PET CT scanner parked outside the facility. “We’ve seen so much of a community response to that service that we found we need to bring it in-house,” Robinett said on the radio. “Bringing a PET CT scanner in-house in a rural hospital is really unheard of.”
The hospital is also upgrading its radiation oncology services and increasing local availability for cancer-related procedures, such as biopsies. Robinett emphasized that expanding cancer care is a priority. “Truly, this Cancer Center competes with the size and scope of services of several cancer centers up in the Wasatch Front metro,” he said.
Future plans for the hospital include developing a medical office building on campus to consolidate primary care services and recruit additional specialists. “We are looking aggressively toward the future,” Robinett said on the radio, highlighting that these expansions ensure Cedar City residents can access high-quality healthcare without traveling far.
Robinett credited Intermountain Health’s support for making these projects possible, noting that despite challenges in the healthcare industry, Cedar City Hospital is not just surviving but thriving.

Robinett was on the Cedar City Area Chamber of Commerce program, It's A Class Act. You can hear his portion of the show in the podcast below. It's A Class Act airs Thursday mornings at 6:30 on KSUB.
