Fire Activity Update: KSUB News Summary
The Little Twist Fire burning south of Beaver has grown to 857 acres according to Utah Fire Info. The fire remains within the target treatment area. The fire originated as a prescribed burn. Three Hot Shot crews are on scene along with two Type 2 IA crews, the Tushar Mountain Module, along with four local engines. Three helicopters are also engaged battling the fire. Personnel are continuing to work on containment of the fire. This particular incident will transition to a local Type 3 incident on Saturday morning.
Sevier County's Clear Creek Fire Now Fifty Percent Contained
State fire officials say the Clear Creek Fire in Sevier County at Interstate 70 is about 50 percent contained. As of yesterday, the fire has burned more than 20 acres. Crews continue to monitor hot spots and no new fire activity was reported overnight. Strong wind conditions and steep terrain made it difficult for crews. The fire was reportedly started on Tuesday when a vehicle's brake drum separated and left hot pieces along I-70, east of Fremont Indian State Park.
California Death Row Inmate Charged With Salt Lake City Cold Case Homicide
A convicted 57-year-old serial killer on death row in California is now charged in connection to a 25-year-old cold case homicide in Salt Lake City. Investigators say Chester Turner is at the California State Penitentiary and is suspected in the deaths of at least 14 women in the Los Angeles area. Today in Utah's 3rd District Court, Turner was charged with aggravated murder in the death of 21-year-old Itisha Camp on September 24th in 1998. An autopsy determined that Camp who was reportedly a sex worker was strangled. Turner was convicted of rape in 2002 but DNA testing would link him to several murders. His victims were often sex workers and homeless women who died from 1987 to 1998. Turner was sentenced to death in 2014 but California imposed a death penalty moratorium five years later.
Celebration Of Life For Longtime Bees Broadcaster Steve Klauke Set For Monday
A Celebration of Life is planned for long-time Salt Lake Bees broadcaster Steven Klauke who died on Tuesday at age 69. Steven's Celebration of Life will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday at Le Jardin on East Dimple Dell Road. The public is welcome to attend. Klauke died at Intermountain Health Care in Murray as a result of injuries he sustained in a pedestrian-auto accident in Sandy. He was in a crosswalk when he was hit by the driver of a pickup truck. He had recently retired as the Bees broadcaster and a career that included his calling more than four thousand games over 29 seasons. He also the radio host for Weber State University football and men's basketball.
