Husband Of Florida Senate President Dies After Fall In Bryce Canyon: KSUB News Summary
The husband of a Florida lawmaker is dead after a hiking accident at Bryce Canyon National Park. Authorities say 72-year-old John Passidomo was hiking with his wife on Monday. At some point he fell and sustained serious head trauma as other hikers came to his aid. He was transported from the trail by ambulance to a local hospital and then flown to a regional trauma center in St. George. He died late Wednesday surrounded by his wife and three daughters in Utah. He was an attorney and former Naples, Florida city council member. His wife, Republican Senator Kathleen C. Passidomo serves as president of the Florida Senate. In a statement, the senator expressed her gratitude to the National Park Service, Garfield County first responders and Bryce Canyon National Park staff.
Suspected Drug Dealer Arrested In Iron County
A suspected fentanyl dealer has been arrested in Iron County. Pedro Alejandro "Alex" Pinacho was booked into the Iron City Jail yesterday after an investigation that began in late March. A search of Pinacho's home by the police found about 80 fentanyl pills, powdered fentanyl, a spoon with burnt residue consistent with drug use and tinfoil with a burnt residue consistent with fentanyl pills. He allegedly also attempted to sell the drugs to undercover agents in the Iron-Garfield-Beaver Counties Narcotics Task Force and was arrested. He is awaiting his first court hearing.
Bomb Threat At Snow Canyon High School Was Hoax
Snow Canyon High School officials say a threatening email claiming there was a bomb in a school parking lot was a hoax. Following standard protocol, both the high school and nearby Snow Canyon Middle School were placed on a brief lockdown Wednesday as police investigated. Officials say the email was sent to the St. George City website and to two businesses. The incident remains under investigation.
Suspect Named In Series Of Hit And Runs
A 26-year-old man is now a suspect in a Summit County crash. Police say Anh Duy Pham is also accused of intentionally hitting at least six women in hit-and-run crashes across Salt Lake County. The Summit County Sheriff's Office says a woman was walking along Sunpeak Drive on March 5th when she was hit from behind by a vehicle that then left the scene. She was taken to an area hospital and treated for her injuries. Salt Lake County prosecutors say Pham faces felony charges in connection to four other hit-and-run incidents since August 2023. The latest is from March 11th.
New Hogle Zoo Exhibit Will Highlight Utah Wildlife
Officials at the Hogle Zoo say a new exhibit will cover three acres and feature Utah wildlife. The 22-million-dollar project is named the Aline W. Skaggs Wild Utah Exhibit. Zoo visitors will see species of Utah wildlife such as cougars, badgers and bighorn sheep as part of the new venue. Officials say the Norma W. Matheson Education Animal Center at the zoo will send out housed animals on visits to schools as part of an outreach program. The exhibit also features the Utah Amphibian Conservation Room which is a unique initiative to foster conservation policies in the state.
