In Cedar City and throughout the County, we want kids to know they can get to school safely whether that be by foot, bike, bus, or personal vehicle,” explained Sergeant J. Ludlow from the Cedar City Police Department in a press release.

When students arrive at their schools on October 4th, it's likely they will be greeted by high fives from police officers or elected officials as they walk in to the schools. During the day they will also participate in “walking school busses,” and be given safety education and materials explaining safe routes to the schools, including correct use of crosswalks and bike lanes.

Representatives from Iron County School District, Cedar City, Enoch, and Parowan, Cedar City Police and Enoch Police Departments, Iron County Sheriff’s Office, Cedar City Fire Department, Southwest Utah Public Health Department, and the Cedar City Active Transportation Committee are involved.

Every elementary school in the district will participate individually based on the school’s needs, location, and capacity. We are working with our staff and the Parent Teacher Associations to provide a safe, fun, and educational experience,” explained Shauna Lund, Iron County School District's Communications and Foundation Coordinator in the press release.

Walk and Bike to School Day is a valuable initiative that encourages active transportation, fosters community engagement, and promotes the well-being of students.
