Southern Utah High School Slate Week 2

Week 2, lets get it!

High School football is officially in full swing with Week 1 in the books.

Certain teams are riding high while others try to rebound.

Week 1 is fun, but it remains far from telling the whole story of who will be championship contenders when the dust settles.

Both week 1 winners and losers still have much to prove and are feeling able to do so with some fresh experience under their belts.

From St. George to Cedar City, Enterprise to Hildale the local squads will be taking the gridiron for the 2nd time this season.

Lets check in on when and where some of our local teams in relative proximity to St. George will be entering battle this Friday, and if they’ve matched up before:

All games listed will take place Friday, August 22nd, with the exception of the Water Canyon game.

UTAH 4A: Region 9

Desert Hills Thunder (1-0) at Herriman Mustangs (1-0) (6A)

Where: Herriman High School, Herriman, Utah @ 7:00 PM

Last meeting: No previous history.

Last week: Desert Hills edged Faith Lutheran, NV whereas Herriman rolled Bountiful.

Provo Bulldogs (1-0) at Crimson Cliffs Mustangs (0-1)

Where: Crimson Cliffs High School, Washington, Utah @ 7:00 PM

Last meeting: No prior history, first ever matchup between the two schools.

Last week: Provo handled Green Canyon, Crimson fell to Lone Peak

Canyon View Falcons (1-0) (3A) at Dixie Flyers (0-1) 

Where: Dixie High School, St. George, Utah, @ 7:00 PM

Last meeting: Dixie rumbled to a 48-7 win back in 2020 when Canyon View was a part of the region.

Last week: Dixie stumbled in Richfield while Canyon View pounded Jordan.

 Pine View Panthers (1-0) at Cedar Reds (1-0) (3A)

Where: Cedar High School, Cedar City, Utah @ 7:00 PM

Last meeting: Pine View bested Cedar for a narrow 31-27 win last year in region play.

Last week: The Panthers put on an offensive show in a tough win over Manti while Cedar did the same in blasting Bear River.

Moapa Valley, Nevada Pirates (0-1) at Hurricane Tigers (1-0) 

Where: Hurricane High School, Hurricane, Utah @ 7:00 PM

Last meeting: Last year saw the Pirates plunder a 30-29 win in Nevada.

Last week: Hurricane blanked Virgin Valley, Nevada 27-0, whereas Moapa Valley, NV was sunk by Beaver.

Shadow Ridge, Nevada Mustangs at Snow Canyon Warriors (1-0)

Where: Snow Canyon High School, St. George, Utah @ 7:00 PM

Last meeting: Snow Canyon emerged victorious in a 31-27, 2019 win.

Last week: The Warriors put the rest of the state on notice with a dominant win in Spanish Fork.

UTAH 3A: 3A South

Last meeting: The Eagles flew past the Rams, 42-7, last year.

Last week: ALA slipped up to Carbon and Parowan held off Providence Hall.

Enterprise Wolves (0-1) at South Sevier Rams (1-0) (2A)

Where: South Sevier High School, Monroe, Utah, @ 7:00 PM

Last meeting: The Rams shut out the Wolves to the tune of 21-0 last season.

Last week: Enterprise suffered a heartbreaker in North Summit and South Sevier bullied Millard.

Kanab Cowboys (1-0)  at North Sevier Wolves (1-0)

Where: North Sevier High School, Salina, Utah at 7:00 PM

Last meeting: The Cowboys claimed a 49-6 win in last years showdown.

Last week: Kanab beat up Emery while North Sevier erased Grand.

Beaver Beavers (1-0) at San Juan Broncos (1-0) 

Where: San Juan High School, Blanding, Utah, @ 7:00 PM

Last meeting: In 2022, San Juan blew through the Beavers 41-21.

Last week: Beaver beat up on Moapa Valley, NV and San Juan put away Grantsville.

Utah 1A 8-Player:

 Milford Tigers (1-0) at Rich Rebels (1-0)

Where: Rich High School, Randolph, Utah @ 7:00 PM

Last meeting: 2021 saw Milford dismantle Rich, 46-7.

Last week: Milford hung 95 points on Panguitch and Rich handled Gunnison Valley.

Water Canyon Wildcats (0-1) at Fredonia, Arizona Lynx 

Where: Fredonia High School, Fredonia, Arizona ON SATURDAY, August 23rd at 12:00 PM

Last meeting: Two years ago, Water Canyon won it, 38-14.

Last week: The Wildcats were on the wrong end of a Utah Military Camp Williams shutout.
