NYC Breaks Ground With A Congestion Toll, Will Utah Follow?
Pay to enter parts of town, is Southern Utah next?
New York has voted to enact a bill that will allow the officials to charge drivers to go to popular parts of the city. This will position New York to be the first city in the United States to have what is being called a congestion toll.
There are other cities like London that already have a toll like this in place, and here is where it might be chilling, officials admitted that the success of this program will be watched with intent to spread the idea. Meaning other cities will be watching to see if it works.
Does this mean Southern Utah will be an earlier adapter? Probably and hopefully not, but could we could see the policy picked up in cities that we like to visit? Also, lest we forget this idea is alive and well in our local national parks where fees and traffic limiting are used to manage congestion. So, our area might have reinforced the idea.
I hope other popular sites don't start thinking this is a good idea. Could you imagine if hamburger ally had a fee attached to it during dinner time? Yikes.
What if your kid's soccer tournament had a fee for entering the park? Come on. I already hate it when I have to pay to park. Wait, I just had the chill of acceptance find purchase in my brain in the form of a question; what is worse, when there is no parking because of congestion, or having to pay to park? Oh no I can feel defenses fading.
Maybe if they charge you, they could also ensure that you will have traffic-free travels and a place to park when you get to your destination. Make it stop, free for me, that should be my sole focus.
Argh don't let the brain worms in.
