Renovations are continuing today at Temple Square for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Crews working with a steady stream of 60 trucks poured tens of thousands of pounds of concrete starting Thursday. North Temple Street was shut down for a while during the concrete convoy. Temple Square is in its fifth year of renovations with completion expected in 2026. The changes include the construction of several new buildings, infrastructure updates that also address earthquake and other safety concerns.

Romney To Give Commencement Address In Baltimore

Republican Senator Mitt Romney will give the commencement address for the Johns Hopkins University class of 2024 in Baltimore on May 23rd. The president of Johns Hopkins says Utah's senior senator has a track record that includes public and private bipartisan leadership. Romney earned his bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in Provo and went on to earn a law degree and MBA at Harvard University.

Three Salt Lake City Police Officers Cleared Of Wrongdoing

Officials say the three Salt Lake police officers who shot and killed an armed fugitive in 2023 were legally justified. On Friday, the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office cleared Officer Miles Southworth, Sgt. Moronae Lealaogata and Detective Brendyn Scott of any wrongdoing. At the time he was shot, 41-year-old Penisimani Halai had led police on a pursuit and was armed when he broke into an occupied home. After he was shot in the stomach, Halai was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but was pronounced dead on January 21st.

Big Weekend Expected At Little Sahara Recreation Area

A recreation area known as Utah's largest sandbox is expected to be a prime destination this Easter weekend. The Little Sahara Recreation Area in Juab County is preparing to welcome double the number of normal visitors. The Bureau of Land Management says this year the Easter weekend overlaps with spring break ongoing at many area school districts. Officials estimate as many as 40 to 50 thousand tourists will head to the West Desert District. The area offers hiking opportunities, wildlife viewing and camping. BLM has brought additional staff on board to accommodate the surge in visitors expected Friday to Sunday.
