Join The Excitement At The Cedar City Star Search Event On March 15th!
As we’ve written before, the Cedar City Star Search is coming in March to the Heritage Theater in Cedar City. Brandon Burk, the Events Director for Cedar City was on the radio with us this morning, and put out the call for audition.
“Yeah, I'm really excited. I mean, I've got a really great job where I get to put together some really fun events and one of the first big ones of the year is coming up. It's March 15th and that's our Cedar City Star Search, and the Cedar City Star Search is a really cool event because it's a community event. It's free to the public, so you can reserve a ticket online. You can come and watch local talented people compete for a chance to win cash prizes and it just I think it highlights some of the talent that we have going on in this town,” Burk explained.
Burks primary purpose for joining us on the show was to put out the call for auditions. “Today we want to gather the talent and the way it works is everybody can submit auditions. We'll accept auditions from all ages. We're going to have a kids division, a teen division and an adult division, as well as a group divisions. So those three age divisions. And then we'll have a group of celebrity judges who will help judge our finalists. But in the meantime, we've got to narrow it down to the finalists who actually get to perform. So folks can submit online at CedarCity.org/star search. And there's a link there where they can submit a video. There's a little form they fill out if they're under 18, we'll have a little waiver for. Them to fill out their parents to fill out,” Burk said.
And what kind of talent are they looking for? According to Burk, anything. “Any talents...we usually get a lot of musicians, singers, things like that. We've also had magicians, we've had jugglers. We have somebody who's interested this year who does a silk routine hanging from the ceiling.”
All in all it sounds like a great night of entertainment, and for those participating, Burk says there will be prizes to win. “Each of the winner of each of the four divisions, the age group divisions and the group division will each win $250. So, it's a total of $1000 in cash plus. We give a small price for an Audience choice award, so the judges will score the 12 finalists and the people with the highest score will win those divisions. But the audience also gets to participate and cheer for their favorite act at the end of the night, and that person will get a prize,” Burk said.
Brandon also gave us a little history of the Cedar City Star Search. “This is our 4th year doing this and I think it's gotten progressively better. I think it actually started under Brad Abrams's watch, who was two events directors ago and, I think he just wanted an opportunity to showcase a lot of the talent that we have here in Cedar City, which is what we get to do. And I know everybody who's come to this event. Has really loved it for that reason.”
And Burk told us there is an added element of community support happening with the Cedar City Star Search this year. “Also this year, (there’s) a new element to it. We're going to start raising money through this event. It's still a free event to the public, right? But we're gonna have some activities and some activations that will help raise some money for Canyon Creek services. And I think that's a really great thing too,” Burk concluded
The deadline to get auditions to the city is February 16th. The audition link has instructions on how to record and submit an audition.
Then mark your calendar for March 15th for a Friday night of community entertainment at the Heritage Theater.
