County Clerks Provides Election Advice

(St. George, UT) -- Southern Utah election officials want everybody's vote to be counted this November. That's why Washington County Clerk-Auditor Ryan Sullivan urged Utahns in the region to not wait till the last minute to return their mail-in ballot. Sullivan told the Salt Lake Tribune he "can't control the mail," so it's important ballots are postmarked the day before election day or sooner in order to be processed.

Iron County Clerk Jon Whittaker recommends voters who intend to use the postal system to mail in ballots as much as a week before election day.  Mail ballots for Washington and Iron County residents, and other Utahns started going out earlier this month.

Armed Guards In Every Public School

(Undated) -- A new state law requires armed guards in every public school in Utah. However, the Salt Lake Tribune reported without enough funds or personnel, schools are struggling to meet the mandate. The School Security Task Force determined last week that the initial allocation of about 100-million-dollars, isn't enough. Additionally, some schools are reportedly refusing to comply, however, state officials have said full compliance is expected.

Woman Charged With Murder Issued No-Contact Order

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- The 41-year-old woman charged with murdering her estranged husband is ordered to have no contact with her three children. Jennifer Gledhill is accused of shooting and killing Matthew Johnson in their Cottonwood Heights home. He was reported missing September 20th, when he didn't report for work. Gledhill is due back in court Friday to determine a date for a detention hearing.

Suspicious Device Detonated Saturday at Kaysville Elementary School

(Kaysville, UT) -- Authorities responded to a school in Kaysville on Saturday after reports of a suspicious homemade firework or potential pipe bomb. Police received the call at Endeavour Elementary just before 4 p.m. and contacted the Davis County Bomb Squad, which safely detonated the device on-site and collected remnants for investigation. A search of the surrounding area for additional devices was conducted, and police confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the community.
