Meb Anderson: From SUU Assistant Attorney General To District Court Judge
Meb Anderson has been appointed by Utah Governor Spencer Cox to serve as a judge in the Fifth District Court, a position he will assume on November 1, 2024. Anderson's nomination received unanimous support from the Senate Judicial Confirmation Committee, a testament to his extensive legal experience and dedication.
For over five years, Anderson has been the Assistant Attorney General assigned to Southern Utah University (SUU), playing a key role in the University’s Office of Legal Affairs. During his time at SUU, he managed audits, contracts, and legal compliance with state and federal regulations, serving as a liaison between the University, the Attorney General’s office, and State Risk.
In addition to his role at SUU, Anderson has served as the Education Division Director for the Utah Attorney General’s Office since 2021. In this capacity, he oversaw state attorneys advising higher education institutions, school boards, and local school districts across Utah.
“Meb has provided invaluable counsel to SUU, fostering important conversations that have best positioned our university for future success,” noted SUU President Mindy Benson in a press release.
Anderson's legal career also includes eight years in the Litigation Division of the Utah Attorney General’s Office, where he managed civil cases as lead counsel. Before joining the Attorney General's office, he worked in private practice with Blaisdell, Church, and Johnson, as well as Stirba & Associates. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Utah, a J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law, and is expected to complete a Master of Public Administration degree from SUU this fall.
Anderson expressed gratitude for his time at SUU, stating, “I am humbled and honored to serve the people of the state of Utah with attentiveness, integrity, and adherence to the rule of law.”
