The Utah Division Of Wildlife Resources say a homeowner needed help after a yearling bull moose came up on the family's front porch in Ogden. DWR was able to locate the animal after it then wandered into a backyard near Harrison Boulevard. Officials tranquilized and transported the moose in a trailer to U.S. Forest Service land in the Monte Cristo mountain region. Officials say it is important to report moose sightings so they can be safely moved away from enticing and convenient food sources in heavily populated areas. People are still advised to avoid coming to close to a moose as it can become aggressive especially near dogs.
Police Seek Witness In Conjunction With Death Of Sgt. Bill Hooser
Investigators are asking the public to help identify a potential witness in a case involving a man who is accused in the death of Santaquin Police Sgt. Bill Hooser. On Thursday, the Utah County Sheriff's Office released surveillance photos of the person they seek for questioning. The man is shown trying to put gas in his silver sedan at the Maverik gas station on East Main in Santaquin on May 5th, the same day the officer was killed. At one point, the video shows an apparent short conversation between the suspect and the man. Deputies say the man has a ponytail, was wearing a visor and was using a crutch. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Utah County Sheriff's Office.
Structure Fire In Ogden Contained
Investigators are looking into what caused an overnight fire at a multi-use building in Ogden. Firefighters say the alarm came in at about 3:15 a.m. on Friday for the structure at Historic 25th Street. Upon arrival, crews saw fire and smoke coming from the basement door of the three-story building. Early reports show a person may have started the fire but it is not known if it was an accident or intentional. Officials say all residents were safely evacuated and the fire was contained. Damage is estimated at about 10-thousand dollars. Residents were allowed to go back into the building and no injuries were reported.
Kidnapping, Harboring Runaway Juvenile Charges Leveled At Utah Man
A 49-year-old Utah man is under arrest after police say he brought a 12-year-old runaway girl from Hurricane and a 13-year-old runaway from Colorado City, Arizona, to an area hotel. Investigators say Theral Dockstader Hammon was taken into custody for investigation of kidnapping, two counts of harboring a runaway juvenile, two counts of contributing to a minor's delinquency and two counts of distributing or offering a controlled substance. Hurricane police located Hammon in a room at a local Super 8 motel. Police say the girls were located a short time later. Police found substances on the scene that were later identified as marijuana and methamphetamine. The investigation is continuing.
