Driver Dies Following Rear End Collision With School Bus
A driver of a Honda Accord is dead after a rear-end collision with a stopped school bus north of Fairview in Sanpete County on Wednesday. The driver was airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition but later died. The Utah Highway Patrol says the collision was at about 3 p.m. on the northbound lanes of U.S. 89 at mile marker 285. The bus had its lights flashing as it stopped to let out students. Police say two students had exited when the driver struck the bus while traveling at about 55 miles per hour. No one on the bus was injured. A different bus was called to the scene to pick up the children. I-89 reopened to traffic hours after the incident at around 6:30 p.m. The collision is under investigation. Police have not released the driver's name.
South Salt Lake Council Member Censored
The South Salt Lake City Council voted unanimously during a special meeting Wednesday to censure one of its members. The council had published it was considering discussion and action related to possible violations of its procedural rules. Councilmember Paul Sanchez was censured for his alleged rule breaking by posting negative social media comments.
Suspect Awaiting Extradition To Utah As Victim Dies
A 17-year-old Murray boy is dead of injuries three days after he was shot in a restaurant parking lot last Saturday. Police confirmed the teenager died late Tuesday. Police have not identified the victim. A 20-year-old suspect in the shooting is being held in a Colorado jail. Jhon Alvaro-Alarcon Parede is in custody on a warrant for attempted murder out of the 3rd District Court. The charge may be upgraded to murder. He is awaiting extradition back to Utah. The victim was shot in the back of the head while seated in the driver's seat of a Chevy Tahoe in the McDonald's parking lot at South Commerce Drive near I-15. Parede was a backseat passenger in that vehicle.
