One Utah City Included In Video Of Worst Western Cities
I'm a fan of the Los Angeles Angels (of Anaheim and sometimes Pomona). I know the Angels are horrible. I know you know the Angels horrible. I often express the Angels are horrible. But don't you dare tell me the Angels are horrible! That's how we feel about things that are close to us. (We could also have this same conversation about the Utah Jazz this year.)
So when someone from outside my circle criticizes where I live, what I support, or who I cheer for, I tend to want to return the favor.
So it was when I became of this video from Stuck In The Kernfield.
My first reaction was who are you to be judging about these places and if Stuck In The Kernfield indicates that you are from Kern County, California, well you ain't got all that much to brag about yourself!
Watch it if you will, but to distill it down for you, they've compiled what the consider the worst cities in the Western U.S. And yes, Utah has one representation on the list.
The video starts by saying there are three main complaints about the Utah city in question. If I gave you reason one and two, that would be a dead giveaway. But here is the third reason this Utah city is criticized.
...is the bad drivers. Several mentioned left lane lurkers, who don't undestand that the left lane is for passing.
Couldn't that complaint be leveled against virtually any city in Utah? Maybe any city in the Intermountain West?
Another common complaint of this Utah city is its limited nightlife and entertainment scene. Due to the city’s conservative nature, bars and clubs are scarce, and alcohol laws are strict. Social norms also lean traditional, which can feel restrictive for those who prefer a more liberal atmosphere.
Like many cities in Utah, this one has seen significant growth in recent years, leading to rising housing costs and increased traffic congestion. The city’s winter air quality is another concern, as inversions trap pollution in the valley.
Well, since inversions haven't become a huge issue down here, we can now take a southern Utah city of the list.
So, what is the Utah city that got included on this list. It's Provo. That's right, Happy Valley, USA.
Apparently, not happy to everyone. Consider the Niche Review of a former resident.
Too many people, too much pollution, terrible drivers. It's nice you can hike nearby, but everyone thinks they are a lot more amazing than they are. It's not the worst, but at the same time, kind of is.
Not a glowing review.
But I return to my original premise. If you're an outsider, leave Provo alone. We here in Utah can make fun of it all we want, but you're comments are unwelcome. And don't say anything to me about the Angels!
