Pumpkin Festival Set For Saturday
We're still in the relatively early days of October, but that is not stopping us from turning to all things Halloween. Of course, the candy has been in the stores for weeks now (if it's not being pushed aside for Christmas merchandise, but that's another story.), kids are pestering parents about what costume they want, and Halloween / Fall festivities abound.
One such festival is set for this Saturday, October 7th as the Cedar City Area Chamber of Commerce is presenting the annual Pumpkin Festival. This has been going on for some 19 years now in Cedar City and is made for the family with an emphasis of fun for the kids.
In the day, the Pumpkin Festival was presented outside on the lawn near the Randall Jones theater of the Utah Shakespeare Festival. Kids were invited to the grounds to decorate pumpkins and get a jump start on Halloween. But when construction started on the Southern Utah Museum of Art and the new Shakespeare Festival Centre, the Pumpkin Festival needed to find a new home.
And with October weather being what it is in Cedar City (although this weekend looks to be perfect), moving the activity in to an inside venue seemed to be a prudent idea. Over time, various groups and organization would present the festival until now when the Pumpkin Festival has come under the umbrella of the chamber of commerce.
And, even though weather doesn't appear to be a factor for this weekend, activities will be in an indoor situation and the Diamond Z Arena out at the Cross Hollows Event Center.
All sorts of activities are on tap that should bring laughter and joy to all, and while most of the events are oriented to the young, there will be activities for the adults.
There will, of course, be a pumpkin patch where kids can pick their best soon to be Jack 'O Lantern. There will also be face and nail painting, Trick or Treating, cupcake decorating and food available for everyone.
Cedar View Pediatric Dentistry is the primary sponsor of the Pumpkin Festival while the Cedar Band of Paiutes, Rocky Mountain Power and the ERA Realty Center are supporting sponsors. Individual activities are also sponsored by local businesses.
The cost is $5 per child. The Pumpkin Festival starts at 10AM and goes to 4PM. You can get more information by clicking this link.
