Saratoga Springs Couple Indicted For Stealing From Gun And Ammunition Buyers

The owners of a gun and ammunition business are under federal indictment for allegedly taking money from customers and never providing merchandise in return. In a newly unsealed indictment, investigators say 31-year-old John Earl Donaldson and his wife, 29-year-old Carlie Elizabeth Winters, both of Saratoga Springs, were indicted by a grand jury on April 9th. The indictment claims the couple defrauded customers and financial firms of about 600-thousand dollars that went through their company, Urban Armz, LLC. About a half million of those dollars allegedly came from charitable organizations wanting to purchase supplies for Ukrainians fighting the war with Russia. The indictment alleges that Donaldson and Winters made false claims on their website including listing a St. George office and such big name clients as the FBI and the U.S. Defense Department. Urban Armz was registered as a Utah business from December 2020 to March 2023.

Salt Lake City Commission To Further Restrict Gas Station Construction

Salt Lake City is closer to banning the construction of gas stations that would be too close to local bodies of water. Planning Commission members voted unanimously last week to recommend the city council adopt an ordinance that creates changes in the city code. The ordinance proposes a zoning change that bans building any above- or below-ground fuel storage tanks within 350 feet of any river, stream, canal, pond or any other existing body of water within Salt Lake City. All new tanks must be at least 30 feet away from property lines. The proposed ordinance states a new station must have a minimum lot size of 30-thousand square feet and must include at least one electric vehicle parking space for every ten on-site parking stalls.
