Skydiver Injured In Accident
A skydiver was hurt yesterday due to a parachute malfunction. Tooele County Sheriff's deputies said the 36-year-old woman collided with a power line when the main chute failed, but the reserve chute opened. The woman was conscious when first responders reached her around 5 p.m. She was airlifted to Salt Lake City Hospital but her identity and the extent of her injuries were not available.
Weekend Motorcycle Crash Proves Deadly
One man is dead and another man injured after two motorcycles collided Saturday night in Cache County. It happened around 8:30 p.m. on SR-101 in Blacksmith Fork Canyon. The Utah Highway Patrol said one of the motorcycles was speeding eastbound, crossed the center line, and the two riders were thrown when they made leg-to-leg contact. The rider going west was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Drug Charges Leveled Against Mother, Daughter
A mother and daughter face drug charges following a traffic stop near Cedar City late last week. A Utah Highway Patrol trooper pulled over Emily and Cheri Carbaugh on I-15 for a malfunctioning taillight. The trooper reportedly spotted drug paraphernalia inside the car, and authorities say further searching turned up suspected meth, suboxone, and fentanyl. Both suspects were charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, and possession of drugs and paraphernalia.
Reservoir Spillway Flowing Amid High Water Levels
Whitewater is raging down the Echo Reservoir spillway near Coalville amid very high water levels. The spillways of the Stateline Reservoir, Moon Lake Reservoir, Steinaker Reservoir, and others across the state are also running strong, and experts say last year's abnormally large snowpack melting from high temperatures is the cause. Utah has seen two major heat waves so far this year.
