State Supreme Court Keeps Abortion Legal In Utah: KSUB News Summary

Officials say abortion care will remain legal in Utah for now. The state Supreme Court allowed a preliminary injunction that block's the Legislature's near-total abortion ban to stay in place today. Planned Parenthood Association of Utah and Utah Democrats reacted positively to the ruling. Utah Republicans condemned the decision. In a joint statement, Gov. Spencer Cox and Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson announced they were disappointed by the Supreme Court's ruling because it delays implementation of a law designed "to protect some of the most vulnerable members of our state." The case will continue in the lower courts after the 4-1 ruling was released today. The majority opinion says Planned Parenthood Association of Utah has standing to sue the state over Utah's "so-called trigger ban, SB174."

Utah Hockey Club Buys Shopping Mall For Practice Facility

The Utah Hockey Club is the owner of a new practice home after it purchased a Sandy shopping mall. Smith Entertainment Group officials announced the acquisition of The Shops at South Town today. The 111-acre site was purchased in "its totality" to give the new NHL club a permanent facility that will be completed in 2025. The practice area will be at the southeast end of The Shops. The mall facility, the surrounding parking lot, adjacent retailers, restaurants and hospitality buildings are all included in the deal.

Explosions Accompany House Fire In Roy

Investigators are seeking the cause of two explosions that happened during a house fire yesterday in Roy. The first explosion was reported before firefighters got to the scene. A second explosion came after first responders had put out the fire. Crews reported a strong small of gas near the structure at 29-Hundred West and 57-Hundred South while firefighters battled the flames. Contractors had been installing H-VAC equipment at the home when the fire started. One of the workers was treated for minor injuries.

Utah ranks as one of the best states for hiking in the U.S. based on factors like scenic beauty, elevation and the number of hiking trails. The Green Brand study ranked the top U.S. spots for getting outside. Colorado took the number one ranking followed by California and Wyoming . Washington, and Utah rounded out the top five.
