Summit County Nanny Facing Child Abuse Charges: KSUB News Summary
A nanny in Summit County is facing child abuse charges. Officials allege that last week, a six-week-old baby who was being taken care of by 32-year-old Lindsay Johnson was hospitalized with brain injuries which doctors say were consistent with those found in shaken baby syndrome incidents. Not only was the child suffering from head trauma, but the child was also found to have a fractured rib. Johnson has been taken into custody on one count of aggravated child abuse. There has been no word on the current condition of the child.
Church Will No Longer Hold Lighting Ceremony
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will no longer hold a lighting ceremony for its Temple Square Christmas Lights. The church announced that due to ongoing renovations, only part of the square will be lit up this year and there will be no formal ceremony where the lights are turned on for the first time. The lights will be on every day from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. until January 1st. The First Presidency Christmas Devotional will be held this coming Sunday at 6:00pm Mountain Time.
Police Officer Involved In Crash During Chase
A police officer is recovering after being injured in a crash in Salt Lake City. The incident happened Saturday when police were attempting to stop a group of individuals near the former Motel 6 in downtown. That's when three individuals ran on foot and, in an attempt to not strike one of the individuals with their police cruiser, an officer crashed their vehicle into another car. The officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Police have not said if any of the individuals were taken into custody.
Initial Claims For Unemployment Rise In Utah
Initial filings for unemployment are on the rise across Utah. The U.S. Department of Labor says that for the week ending November 22nd, initial filings for unemployment rose from just over 19-hundred the week prior to over 21-hundred. Nationally, unemployment claims dropped for the week.
