Sundance Film Festival To Leave Utah? KSUB News Summary

It's possible the Sundance Film Festival could leave Park City and even the state of Utah in the not too distant future. The Sundance Institute says it's undertaking a formal process to explore other viable locations. The festival's contract with Park City is up for renewal in 2027. In a statement, institute officials say both the 2025 and 2026 festivals will be in Park City, where it's been held for more than 40 years. The institute noted that a "request for information" process is underway through May 1st.

One Dead In Two Truck Collision On Interstate 80

One driver is dead in a collision of two semi-trucks on Interstate 80 in Summit County late Wednesday. Utah Highway Patrol says at about 3:15 p.m. troopers responded to milepost 191 on the interstate. A semi-truck traveling eastbound was going uphill when it was rear-ended by another semi hauling a double trailer. The driver of the rear semi-truck was pronounced dead at the scene. Police closed two eastbound lanes of the highway for more than an hour and a half during the investigation. No other information was provided.

Area Reservoirs To Help Fill Great Salt Lake

The Great Salt Lake will rise to the occasion as water is moved from area reservoirs this spring in advance of melting winter snow. Though the state did not have a record water year, officials with the Weber Basin Water Conservancy District say the plan is to move 400-thousand acre-feet of water from reservoirs that are on average about 75-percent full. Sending water into the Great Salt Lake creates room in the reservoirs for expected snowpack runoff. The reservoirs serve five counties across the Wasatch Front.

Inmate Dies At Cache County Jail

An inmate at the Cache County Jail is dead after authorities say he was found unresponsive in his cell Wednesday. Deputies say the inmate was found not breathing in his cell at about 2:45 p.m., at which time life-saving CPR was performed. Logan paramedics arrived and continued to try to revive the inmate who was pronounced dead on the scene. Officials have not released his identify pending an autopsy and determination of cause and manner of death. An investigation into his death is now underway.
