Officers say a third person is under arrest in connection with the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Naod Welday at the Mt. Olympus Trailhead. The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office says today that 19-year-old Alexander Ruiz-Martinez was taken into custody and is facing charges that include first-degree felony murder for the August 3rd shooting. Deputies say he is a documented gang member. The sheriff's office made two other arrests this week including 20-year-old Mateo Martinez and a 15-year-old suspect. Both are reportedly members of the Florencia 13 gang.

Tributes are coming in for former Democrat and Utah Senator Karen Mayne who has died at age 78. Mayne began her 15-year career in the state senate in 2008, resigning only last January for health reasons connected to a cancer diagnosis in 2022. She was given a standing ovation when she greeted colleagues for the last time. Senate President J. Stuart Adams says that Utah has lost an extraordinary stateswoman. Her family has not released information about upcoming services.

Burglar Arrested After SWAT Standoff In Harrisville

Police have a man in custody following a SWAT standoff in Harrisville. Early yesterday police responded to a burglar alarm at about 11 a.m. at a home near North and 400 West. Police arrived and started negotiations with a barricaded man located inside the house. Weber Metro SWAT was also called to the scene. The man finally surrendered about four hours later. He is held at the Weber County Jail on suspicion of trespassing, failure to comply, obstruction and assault on a police officer. Police have not released his name.

Oil Worker Injured In Duchesne County Flash Fire

An oil field worker is receiving treatment after he was critically burned in a flash fire at a drilling site in Duchesne County. Investigators say the Skoufus Tribal West oil pad burst into flames on Wednesday with more than a dozen workers on site. The victim was airlifted to a Salt Lake City hospital. No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
