Tullis Appointed To Iron County School Board: KSUB News Summary
District 6 has a new representative on the Board of Education of Iron County School District. Michelle Lin Tullis was appointed with a vote of 6-1 to finish the term of Board Vice President Lauren Lewis, who is moving out of state. Tullis begins serving June 1. Tullis is employed as a commercial lender with State Bank of Southern Utah. She has served on many boards including the Chamber of Commerce and Canyon Creek Services. She currently serves as the chair for the Iron County Planning Commission. Tullis said she is aware of the time it takes to serve in the position and will do her homework when considering the important decisions school boards face. During her interview with the board, Tullis said she was interested in serving as “a voice of reason” while representing taxpayers and families. She added that it is important to her to ensure that the well being and quality education of students is foremost in every decision made by the board.
Truck Fire Shuts Down I-15 Early Thursday Morning
The northbound lanes of I-15 in Utah County at times were at a complete stop near Santaquin early Thursday due to a semi-truck and trailer fire. Police say at about 2:30 a.m., the truck hauling a trailer with wood was north of Santaquin when a fire of unknown origin fully engulfed the trailer. Northbound lanes were quickly closed as firefighters worked to detach the truck from the trailer to prevent a fuel fire. The Utah Department of Transportation continues to update the time for clearing the scene. The fire visibly charred portions of the highway as crews removed debris using backhoes. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Man Dies From Officer Shooting In Cache County
A man is dead and two Logan City police officers are injured following a shooting incident in Cache County on Wednesday. Investigators say that at about 4:30 p.m. detectives from the Logan City Police Department were trying to arrest a man who turned out to be armed. The suspect shot at the officers at close range, and one was able to return fire, hitting and killing the suspect at the scene. Police have not released the name of the man who died. Both officers were treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The officer-involved shooting is now under investigation.
Utah Continues Population Growth
More than a dozen Utah communities have at least one-thousand new residents each year according to data released today by the U.S. Census Bureau. The numbers reflect population gains from 2022 and 2023. The state topped the nation in housing unit growth for the third straight year. Census information shows the state's housing stock increased by 2.5 percent from July 1st of 2022 to July 1st of 2023. The federal agency released information from two datasets that pinpoint state and county trends. In that information, Cedar City was reported to grow by more than 1,700 persons.
