Two Arrested In Nebraska From Utah Gang Shooting: KSUB News Summary
Two Sudanese gang members are in custody in Nebraska in connection with the shooting death of a 17-year-old Judge Memorial Catholic High School student athlete last month. Authorities say the victim was an innocent bystander. The shots that were fired in a West Valley parking lot were not meant for Nuer Deng who was a member of the high school basketball team. He was seated in the back seat of a car on July 13th when he was hit by gunfire. He was taken to a local hospital and later died. Mare Biel of Arizona and 17-year-old Bevan Kuajian of West Valley City, were charged today in 3rd District Court in Douglas County with murder, a first-degree felony and other charges. Kuajian was 16 at the time of the shooting. Both teens fled to Omaha after the crime.
Rossi Appears In Court
The man accused of faking his own death to avoid a rape charge in Utah was in a Salt Lake City courtroom yesterday. Prosecutors say Nicholas Rossi was present at the hearing where lawyers discussed the use of a witness statement in his upcoming trial. Rossi is accused of raping his former girlfriend in Orem in 2008. He was named a suspect in 2018 after the Utah State Crime Lab identified him through DNA. In 2020 Rossi was charged while he was undergoing treatment COVID-19 at a United Kingdom hospital. He was extradited to Utah from Scotland where he had fled and changed his identity. He's scheduled for an arraignment in October.
Utah Real estate Group Suing National Realtors Association
A Utah real estate company is suing the National Realtors Association in federal court over antitrust charges. Lawyers for the Sandy-based company filed the lawsuit against the nation's largest trade association in Salt Lake City yesterday. The suit comes after the association agreed to a multimillion dollar settlement that changes commission practices for its one-and-a-half million members. Homie in its suit claims settlement terms do not address other conduct it says is unfair and illegal. The settlement agreement is also under investigation by the U.S. Justice Department.
Woman Arrested Following High Speed Chase
Police say a woman is under arrest in Utah County following a high-speed chase. The pursuit began in Spanish Fork when officers tried to initiate a drunk-driving traffic stop. Officers used highway spikes to stop the vehicle and arrested the driver, 37-year-old Danielle Sara Deloss. She is facing more than 30 charges that include DUI, assault on a police officer, drug possession, reckless driving and driving without a license.
Labor Day Travelers Could Be Coming To Utah
It's going to be a busy Labor Day travel weekend this year, especially in Utah. Triple A reports domestic travel during this last holiday weekend of the summer could jump as much as nine-percent as compared to last year. The organization says some families may choose to travel closer to home because of the high volume of travelers. Top U.S. destinations for Labor Day are Salt Lake City, as well as Anaheim, California, Las Vegas, Nevada and Orlando, Florida. State and national parks are also expected to be popular spots for people wanting to bid farewell to summer.
