The International Olympic Committee has made it official; Salt Lake City will host the 2034 Winter Games. It was a foregone conclusion as no other cities bid on 2034 but the official announcement was made today in Paris. The opening of the Summer Games in the City of Lights is just a couple of days away. Governor Spencer Cox and Salt Lake Mayor Erin Mendenhall were among the state and city leaders in Paris for the 2034 announcement.

Church Looking Forward To Olympic Planning

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is extending congratulations to Salt Lake for securing the host bid for the 2024 Winter Olympics. In a social media post church officials say they celebrate the news and recall the feelings of unity and peace felt when Utah last hosted the winter games in 2002. The Church says it is committed to efforts to make Salt Lake a host city that embodies values of servicer, cooperation and mutual respect.

Provo Soldier Killed At Alaska Base

The woman who hit and killed a soldier from Provo at his base in Alaska has been charged with second degree murder. Private First Class Arturo Gomez was working as a gate guard at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks Monday afternoon when a woman drove through medians on the base and hit two vehicles. She then tore through a fence and hit Gomez. Brianna Lapp nearly topped a point-three on the alcohol breath test which is three-times the legal limit in Alaska. Her bail has been set at one-million-dollars.

Millcreek Canyon Human Remains To Be Examined By Utah ME

The human remains found in Millcreek Canyon may be one of two people who went missing following severe weather and flooding. The remains have not been positively identified but authorities have been looking in that area of Grand County for Ray and Maranda Ankofski of Texas who went missing in late June. The body was found on Monday. It will be sent to the Utah Medical Examiner's Office for confirmation of identity and if possible cause of death.
