Utah Is A Hotbed For Bigfoot Sightings

Sokqueatl, Sesquac, Imoiitapi, Bushman, Tornit, Wood Ape, Treeman. Wildman, Mogollon Monster, or Sasquatch.  These are the names of Bigfoot a creature that has been talked about in legend and folklore for more than 600 years.  Sasquatch is a creature that seems to very much like its solitude with numerous sighting but other than some vague traces of footprints and rare encounters, there is almost nothing to identify the existence of this elusive being.

My Own Experience

I do not remember exactly what year it was I assume it was in the md to late 1990s I was in varsity scout on a camping trip in the fall to a place in western Idaho known as Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve.  It is an ancient volcanic lava flow that has many lava tubes and caves that can be explored and is difficult to traverse with the terrain covered with sharp volcanic rock as far as can be seen.

As we were setting up camp for the night many of us took note of a neighboring hill about 100 yards away.  Up on the ridge of this hill we noticed something tall and dark moving at an alarming pace over the ridge.  None of us could explain what we had just seen and even some of the leaders that also witnessed it could not identify what it was. It was bipedal, dark and tall and nothing in our knowledge could go at that pace on 2 legs.

Could It Have Been A Bear?

The next morning after we had had some time to think about it, and possible run our young imaginations, some of us went to the spot we had seen it.  We could not find any tract due to the rocky terrain and it had not started to snow yet.  But in comparing it to a nearby tree we had estimated it to be between 8 and 9 feet tall.  Some Grizzly Bears can get that tall on its hind legs, and I immediately though about Old Ephraim A Grizzly Bear that was 9'11" and weighed 1100 lbs. but I have never heard of a bear being able to move that fast on its hind legs. In the end of it all we had to concluded that we may never know what it was we saw that evening.

According to Lucas Jennings, a Cryptozoologist, actual documented cases of Bigfoot start in the late 1060s with 2 teenage campers in Cottonwood Canyon settling in for the night and hearing a very low guttural growl echo through the canyon, a sound that was not human but also not from any animal they had ever heard.  The next morning they found tufts of reddish black hair.  Sightings continued and even spiked in the 1980s.  I even remember there was a lot of media attention in 2012 when a video was publish of a sighting in Provo Canyon  and then again in 2019 in the same area.

An Ideal Habitat For Bigfoot

Dr. Jeffrey Meldrum, one of the world's foremost experts on Sasquatch, has suggested that the Uinta Mountains could be a prime location for a hidden population of these creatures. With its dense forests and numerous water sources many creatures are able to live and thrive in the rugged wilderness. And Utah of full of places like this that has minimal human interference, ample resources, and room to roam. It's the kind of place where a creature like Sasquatch could easily find food, shelter, and solitude.

The Evidence

Aside from tufts of hair, footprints, some droppings, and sightings, there is no definitive proof that Bigfoot exists.  In fact the lack of remain like bodies or bones have lead many to believe that they are a spiritual entity that is a guardian of the forests.  Other thinks that it may even be a time traveler from a distant time, or something else that is able to slip in and out of our reality at will.  But what is going on? Who knows?  There is evidence of something out there  and we may never have a full answer.
