As a person that does not partake of alcohol or hard drugs one of my biggest vices is a nice cold Soda.  One of my favorite traditions (habits/addictions) is to pick up a fountain drink at a convenience shop usually consisting of a diet cola and a couple shot of either vanilla, coconut, or lime flavored syrup.  I am certainly not alone in this I constantly see lines of people wanting to do the same thing with their flavors of choice.

I am also a fan of Italian Sodas.  Italian sodas are a bit more like the traditional old fashion soda fountains in that they take club soda water and add flavoring to it by hand and you have the option of adding cream to it.  My personal favorite being a Pina Colada Italian Cream Soda.

Dirty Soda

The exact origin for the dirty soda is difficult to know for sure but it started to become a trend sometime in 2010 combining these two methods of making a flavorful drink to delight the taste buds. The original recipe according to eater.com was simple a Diet Coke, a shot of coconut syrup, lime juice, and half-and-half.  This has lead many in Utah to try other popular sodas like Dr. Pepper, Sprite, Coke, Pepsi, and Mountain Dew as the base of a Dirty Soda.

Add It To The Menu

As far as I can tell Swig was the first to add dirty sodas specifically "The Founder" to its menu. Now a days there is a multitude of combinations of dirty sodas to choose from. I am a little ashamed that I have not heard of this trend till now because you can find them at other Utah soda shops like Sodalicious, FiiZ Drinks, Thirst Drinks, and Quench It!.  This trend has become so popular that thus far it is Utah's most favorite soda for 2025.
