Much of the state continues to face life-threatening heat today with excessive heat warnings and heat advisories in place through tomorrow. Highs in northern Utah will top out around 100 degrees. Southern Utah will see temperatures in the triple digits, from 107 to 109. A few thunderstorms will show up over the mountains this afternoon. Drier air should spread into western Utah tomorrow, heading into the rest of the state by Wednesday. Forecasters remind residents to drink plenty of water and to stay indoors whenever possible.
Police Seek Father Of Victim For Questioning
Tooele police are investigating what they are calling the suspicious death of a 25-year-old woman this past Thursday. Police say a welfare check for a woman at East 970 North led to the discovery of the body of Marbella Martinez. She was pronounced dead at her home. Detectives are waiting for test results from the medical examiner's office. The victim's father, 54-year-old Hector Martinez, is sought for questioning by police as a person of interest. Tooele police say they are working with other local and federal law enforcement agencies.
Rescuers Save Two Year Old From Sandy Family Swimming Pool
A two-year-old is hospitalized after he fell into his family's pool yesterday in Sandy. Police say at approximately 5 p.m. family members pulled the child out of the water and began CPR until medical personnel from the Sandy City Fire Department arrived on the scene. Rescuers say the child was transported to a local hospital and is reportedly making progress.
Firefighter In Springville Injured Fighting Structure Fire
First responders say the cause of a structure fire early yesterday in Springville is under investigation. Crews arrived at an empty commercial building on North Main Street and found flames coming from the roof. Multiple departments quickly got the fire under control. One firefighter suffered a minor injury.
University Of Utah Athlete To Compete In Olympics On Wednesday
A University of Utah sophomore and star member of the swim and dive teams is set to make her Olympic debut on Wednesday. Emilia Nilsson will represent her native country Team Sweden. She is scheduled to participate in the three-meter springboard dive on August 7th at the Paris Olympic Aquatic Centre. Nilsson began her diving career at age seven and this is her first Olympics.
