Several factors were taken into consideration in tabulating the list. Among those factors were Infant Mortality Rate (IMR). Infant mortality rate is a critical indicator of a nation's overall health and development. It refers to the number of deaths of infants under one year old per 1,000 live births in a given year. It's a significant measure because it reflects not just the healthcare system's effectiveness but also socio-economic factors like access to clean water, nutrition, maternal education, and overall living conditions.

Another factor used in the report was the fertility rate. Fertility rate refers to the average number of children born to a woman during her reproductive years, typically between the ages of 15 and 49. It's a crucial demographic indicator that influences population growth, age distribution, and social and economic dynamics. This is one category where Utah was in the top 5

Another factor included in the report was the annual cost of child care. The annual cost of child care can vary significantly depending on various factors such as the age of the child, location, type of childcare (e.g., daycare center, home-based care, nanny), and the quality of care provided. In the United States, for example, the average annual cost of full-time childcare for an infant can range from $5,000 to $25,000 or more, depending on the state and city.

Birth Injury Lawyers combined all the factors to create the list of top states to have a baby, and Utah came in 2nd place. Even though South Dakota was ahead of the Beehive State, the report had put Utah in a good light, saying

Utah ranks at a close second as an excellent state for childbirth. It has a health score of 8.45 and a cost score of 8.15, indicating high-quality healthcare and relatively affordable childcare costs, alleviating at least some of those financial burdens. Utah boasts a low infant death rate (4.58 per 1000 births) and a maternal mortality rate of 16.1 per 100,000 live births. The annual cost of childcare per child is $8,268, making it accessible to many parents. With a final score of 78, Utah offers a favorable environment for starting a family and will give you peace of mind if you decide to move there.

All in all, in seems that Utah ranks as a pretty good place to bring a child into the world. But, we already knew that, didn't we?
