Our friend Bryan Randall from Cedar Valley Funeral and Cremation was in to do his radio show today, and he said something that has really stuck with me. He said we don't have enough ceremonies in our lives in the world today. I think he's right.

In a world where everything moves so quickly and casually, we often bypass moments that could be made meaningful with a bit of ritual or intentionality. We rush through days without pausing to honor the milestones, both big and small, that give our lives shape and substance. Perhaps what we need is a return to ceremony.

Ceremony doesn’t have to be grand or elaborate, in fact the most meaningful ceremonies are often not so. It can be as simple as a morning ritual of quiet reflection before the day’s hustle begins, or setting aside time to mark the change of seasons. It’s not about formality for its own sake, but about acknowledging the importance of certain moments. Weddings, graduations, and birthdays are obvious examples where ceremony is still alive, but there are countless other opportunities we let pass by without a second thought.

Think about the everyday moments—first day on the job, a personal achievement, even the first cup of coffee. Adding a bit of ceremony, however small, can elevate these experiences, making them more memorable and more connected to the present. Ceremony invites us to be mindful, to pause and reflect.

When we make room for ritual in our lives, we create meaning. In the fast-paced world we live in, this might be just the antidote we need. A little more reverence for the present, a little more mindfulness of the sacred in the ordinary. Maybe, in this way, we can give our lives the depth they deserve, even in the smallest of moments.

And for those of you who have the ceremony of listening to us on the radio in the morning, we thank you so very much.
