A 37-year-old hiker was found dead on the Canyon Overlook Trail in Zion National Park on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

Zion National Park officials received a report of the fatality at approximately 7:15 a.m. Emergency medical personnel from Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene and pronounced the hiker deceased at approximately 7:40 a.m.

The Zion National Park Technical Search and Rescue Team assisted in recovering the body, which was then transferred to the Washington County Medical Examiner for further examination. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the exact cause of death.

The Canyon Overlook Trail was temporarily closed during the recovery operation but has since reopened to the public.

The response involved more than 30 personnel from multiple agencies, including Zion’s search and rescue team, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue.

Authorities have not released the hiker’s identity or details regarding the circumstances leading to the fatality. Zion National Park officials remind visitors to exercise caution when hiking, particularly during winter months when trail conditions can be unpredictable.
