Iron County Graduating Seniors Look To The Future
Some days I really like my job here at the radio station, and today happens to be that day. Occasionally, life throws us a bone, and we get to feel good about things. We have had students from local schools visit with us from time to time, and more often than not, when we have those visits, I feel good about the future, and those who will assume leadership in society.
Graduating seniors from Cedar High School, Canyon View High School, and Launch High School joined KSUB’s Big Picture Morning Show this week to reflect on their high school experiences and share what lies ahead.
Mia Hatch, student body president at Cedar High School, spoke about the leadership and teamwork skills she developed through student government. “It’s really helped me become better at communicating with the team and learning how to delegate,” she said in the interview. Hatch plans to attend Southern Utah University (SUU) in the fall and pursue a career in elementary education. Cedar High School’s graduation ceremony will take place May 22 at 5 p.m. at the America First Event Center.

Emily Templin, a student at Launch High School, praised the program’s focus on responsibility and personal growth. “I used to be a huge procrastinator,” she admitted. “Launch really taught me that I need to get stuff done.” Templin is headed to Berea College in Kentucky, a liberal arts college known for its historic commitment to equity. Launch’s graduation is set for May 21 at 1 p.m.
From Canyon View High School, senior class president Makaeli Adams shared highlights from her year, including planning Homecoming. She will attend SUU and plans to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before pursuing a medical career. Classmate Adelyn Young, Canyon View’s student body president, also plans to study medicine, aspiring to become a pediatric oncologist. Both students will walk at graduation on May 22 at 1 p.m.
Looking To The Future
Reflecting on their hopes, Hatch said she wants her classmates to “find their place in the world,” while Templin hopes her generation can “shake things up” with compassion and innovation. For now, they’re celebrating with summer jobs, college preparations—and for some, a cruise or Disneyland trip.
The representative from Parowan High School was unable to make it to the broadcast but Parowan graduation is scheduled for Thursday, May 22 at 7 p.m. at the high school auditorium.
