Little Twist Fire 25% Contained; Dixie National Forest Announces Closure

According to Utah Fire Info the Little Twist Fire, currently spanning 2,530 acres, showed limited activity yesterday due to favorable weather conditions including cloud cover and rainstorms. As a result, containment has risen to 25%. Located approximately 4 miles southeast of Beaver, Utah, the fire is situated in steep and rugged terrain, presenting challenges to firefighting efforts.

The fire predominantly smolders in heavy dead and down timber fuels, emitting light smoke visible from Beaver and Piute Counties. Today, minimal fire activity is anticipated with continued cooler temperatures and the possibility of further precipitation.

Firefighting personnel, totaling 305 individuals, are strategically positioned to manage the fire's progression. Crews on the east side, particularly along Circleville Mountain Ridge, are prepared for hand ignitions to secure the northern perimeter. Meanwhile, efforts on the west side have focused on connecting and enhancing indirect lines, with plans to bolster direct fire lines on the southern front throughout the day.

For public safety, an area closure order remains in effect. Smoke will persist in surrounding areas for several weeks, affecting visibility along major routes including I-15, I-70, Hwy-89, and Hwy-20.

Despite the ongoing firefighting operations, recreational opportunities at Little Reservoir, Tushar Lakeside, and Kent's Lake campgrounds remain open to the public. Visitors are advised to stay informed about local conditions and exercise caution in the vicinity of the fire.

The situation continues to evolve as firefighting efforts intensify and weather conditions fluctuate.

In addition, concern over hot and dry conditions has caused the Dixie National Forest to issue a Fire Danger Closure. That closure is in effect for Oak Grove and Browse Roads from now through September 30, 2024 unless rescinded. The reason for the closure is to protect public safety during high fire danger conditions.

Oak Grove Road will be closed from the Oak Grove gate to the Oak Grove campground. In addition, Browse Road from the Browse gate to the Browse Guard Station will also be closed.
