Little Twist Fire Grows To 2,398 Acres; Fire Crews Make Progress
The Little Twist Fire, located 4 miles southeast of Beaver, Utah, has grown to 2,398 acres and is currently 10% contained. The fire is burning through steep and rugged terrain, making containment efforts challenging for the 247 personnel assigned to the incident.
Over the weekend, fire crews successfully conducted burnout operations on the north and northwest perimeters of the fire. Favorable weather conditions allowed ground resources to effectively establish a black line down the Little Twist Trail Ridge. This was a critical step, as crews had previously constructed an indirect handline in preparation for securing this area of the fire.
Today, the forecast calls for hot and dry conditions over the fire. However, there is a chance of precipitation in the afternoon and early evening, which could increase humidity and bring higher winds to the area. If conditions allow, crews plan to continue firing operations, supported by aerial resources for reconnaissance and bucket work.
To ensure the safety of both firefighters and the public, an area closure order remains in effect. Smoke from the fire will continue to be visible for several weeks from surrounding areas, including I-15, I-70, Hwy-89, and Hwy-20.
Despite the ongoing fire, the Little Reservoir, Tushar Lakeside, and Kents Lake Campgrounds remain open to the public for camping. Visitors are advised to stay informed about the fire's progress and adhere to any safety advisories issued by fire officials.
The firefighting teams are working diligently to increase containment and protect the surrounding communities and natural resources from the Little Twist Fire. We will update this story as the situation develops.
