Silver King Fire Expands to 11,290 Acres Amid Hot, Dry Conditions
The Silver King Fire has surged to 11,290 acres, fueled by hot, dry, and windy weather conditions on Monday. To safeguard public health and safety amid ongoing firefighting operations, the Fishlake National Forest has issued a closure order. Ensuring the safety of both firefighters and the public remains the top priority.
Currently, firefighting efforts include the deployment of three Type 1 helicopters, one Type 3 helicopter, two scooper planes, and an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS). On the north and northwest sides of the fire, crews are working to establish an anchor point and construct fire lines to protect the Silver King Mine. In the south and southwest, the fire has extended south of Bullion Creek. Crews are focusing on controlling the fire along the eastern edge, with pumps and hose lays set up for structure protection at Historic Miners Park.
In that Red Flag Warning the National Weather service says that hot, windy, and dry conditions will persist for several days, with north winds gusting between 25 and 30 miles per hour in the afternoon. These conditions pose significant challenges to fire suppression efforts.
Little Twist Fire Sees Progress with 45% Containment
The Little Twist Fire has reached 45% containment after burning 5,096 acres. Firefighters are diligently working to reinforce and improve containment lines. Interior pockets of fuel within the fire's perimeter continue to burn, producing smoke visible from the South Creek area in both Beaver and Piute counties.
A new area closure order for the Little Twist Fire has reopened Anderson Meadow Campground and Anderson Reservoir to the public. Public and fire personnel safety remains paramount. Forest Road 137 (Kents Lake Road) remains open, but caution is advised, particularly between Upper Kents Lake and LeBaron Campground, to facilitate safe suppression operations and protect fire crews in the area.
