Little Twist Fire Smolders To 2,663 Acres; Still 25% Containment
The Little Twist Fire, located four miles southeast of Beaver, Utah, has burned 2,663 acres and is currently 25% contained. The steep and rugged terrain poses significant challenges for the 254 personnel assigned to the fire.
Yesterday, pockets of heat continued to smolder in the high temperatures through the afternoon and evening. Helicopters conducted bucket work, coordinating directly with ground crews to drop water on vital areas, preventing additional spot fires and keeping the fire within the treated area. Smoke from the fire was visible from Beaver and neighboring areas.
Firefighters are focusing their efforts today on the north and west perimeters, using natural barriers where possible to slow the fire's progression. They are working to hold and improve existing handlines. Helicopters will again be deployed to slow any uphill fire runs or active flames. Crews will also resume work along South Creek Road, southwest of the fire, using heavy equipment to construct and improve indirect lines.
A dry cold front is expected to approach the area today, maintaining warm and dry conditions but causing winds to shift toward the west in the afternoon. This shift in wind direction may impact firefighting efforts.
An area closure order remains in place to ensure the safety of both firefighters and the public. Smoke will continue to be visible for several weeks from surrounding areas, including I-15, I-70, Hwy-89, and Hwy-20.
Despite the fire, Little Reservoir, Tushar Lakeside, and Kent's Lake Campgrounds remain open for camping and recreational day use activities. Authorities advise the public to stay informed and adhere to safety guidelines while enjoying these areas.
In Washington County, firefighters have stopped forward progress in the #CentralFire. The human caused fire is listed at 15 acres. High winds in the area are hampering supression efforts. The cause of the fire, which started on private property, is under investigation.
