Community Meeting Tonight in New Harmony to Address Forsyth Fire Concerns
Residents of New Harmony and surrounding areas are invited to a public meeting tonight, Monday, at 7 p.m. to receive the latest updates on the Forsyth Fire. The meeting will be held at New Harmony Town Park, located at the corner of Center Street and 175 East. With limited seating available, attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs.
The Forsyth Fire has grown to 12,851 acres and is currently 26% contained. A total of 655 firefighting personnel are now working to manage the blaze, which remains active in the Pine Valley Mountain Wilderness Area. Extremely hot and dry conditions continue to challenge crews, though natural barriers like rock bands and meadows have helped moderate the fire's spread.
Firefighters are mopping up along the northwest perimeter, where fire behavior has slowed. In other areas, including the eastern flank, crews have been flown in to begin constructing handlines. Preparations are underway for potential volatile weather this week, with rising temperatures and strong winds expected. Fuel reduction efforts have been completed in Oak Grove Campground, and the Browse Guard Station has been wrapped in fire-resistant material for protection.
France Canyon Fire Grows To 33,215 Acres
Meanwhile, the France Canyon Fire near Bryce Canyon National Park has reached 33,215 acres with 29% containment. Tactical firing operations were completed over the weekend. Crews are now focused on mop-up operations and strengthening containment lines on the west, north, and east sides. Around the Hillsdale community and Kings Creek Campground, hoses are being removed and equipment is being withdrawn.
Over the weekend, fire crews also assisted grazing permittees in moving cattle out of the fire area to safer pastures. Fire repair and reseeding are ongoing along the southern edge of the France Canyon Fire.
