More People Carrying Medical Marijuana Cards In Utah

People getting and carrying medical marijuana cards is on the rise in Utah. A recent state health department report shows that as of late March, more than 83-thousand people possess these cards. The report states this is a 19-percent increase over the past year. Officials say obtaining a card is not a complicated process. In Utah, persons seeking a card must be 21 years of age or older and have one of fifteen qualifying medical conditions. The two most common medical reasons are demonstration of persistent pain and PTSD. Medical records are not required, unless the only qualifying condition presented is PTSD. The legislation that allowed medical marijuana to be sold to people who get a doctor's recommendation if they have certain conditions, a compromise bill, was passed in 2018. Medical cannabis is a growing industry in the state, generating about 138-million dollars in sales revenue in 2023.
