National Park Service Searches for Missing Woman at Grand Canyon
The National Park Service (NPS) is conducting a search for Martha Overholser, a 66-year-old woman last seen on December 10, 2024, at Mather Point on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. Overholser was part of a commercial bus tour and failed to return to the group after reportedly walking west from Mather Point. She may have been heading toward the Bright Angel Lodge or Hermits Rest.
Overholser is described as a white female, 5’2” tall, weighing 110 pounds, with gray hair and blue eyes. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a long off-white coat, a gray hooded sweatshirt, and carrying a navy-blue bag.
The NPS has launched a missing person investigation and is seeking the public’s help in locating Overholser. Visitors to the park or anyone with information about her whereabouts are encouraged to contact the NPS Investigative Services Branch Tip Line at (888) 653-0009 or email nps_isb@nps.gov.
Search efforts are ongoing, and the NPS has not released further details at this time. Visitors to Grand Canyon National Park are reminded to exercise caution and remain aware of their surroundings, especially during winter conditions that can make hiking and navigation more challenging.
The Grand Canyon attracts millions of visitors annually, and the NPS maintains resources to ensure their safety. However, the vast and rugged terrain can pose significant challenges in locating missing persons.
For updates on this investigation, continue monitoring announcements from the National Park Service.
This is a developing story. Updates will be posted as received from the National Park Service.
