Road Closure Remains In Effect Below Panguitch Lake Dam

The Garfield County Sheriff's Office alerted the public late Tuesday that road closures leading to Panguitch Lake were underway. The 17-mile closure on State Highway 143 is a precaution after a crack was discovered in the upper part of the reservoir dam. A level two emergency situation indicates there is potential for dam failure. Authorities say there is no immediate threat to public safety but they are closely monitoring the dam. An evacuation map in a worst case scenario requires residents to exit eastbound away from Panguitch Creek. American Red Cross officials say they are in communication with local and state officials to provide assistance if required.

Catholic Community Services Needs Donations In Utah

Catholic Community Services of Utah is reaching out to the community to help provide household and personal items needed by an influx of refugee families in the state. Organization volunteers say the Sharehouse facility in Salt Lake City is depleted as it has responded to a surge in the number of families requiring assistance. On Tuesday, fifteen families looking for hygiene care and other products found empty shelves. The facility needs large-size diapers, sponges, hand soap and body wash but welcomes donations of other toiletries and cleaning supplies as well. CCS says it has assisted 411 refugees already in 2024.
