Utah's Department of Corrections officials say steps are underway in preparation for the August 8th execution of convicted killer Taberon Dave Honie. Honie is set to be put to death by lethal injection at the Utah State Correctional Facility in Salt Lake City. The injection will contain a combination of ketamine, fentanyl and potassium chloride. Utah law requires either sodium thiopental or an equally effective drug to be used. Honie was found guilty and sentenced in 1999 of sexually assaulting and murdering his ex-girlfriend's mother in July 1998. His execution warrant was signed Monday and he has seven days to request a clemency hearing. Corrections officials say protesters for and against the death penalty will have an assigned area outside the prison. Approved members of the media will also be allowed to witness and report on the execution. The last Utah execution was in 2010 when Ronnie Lee Gardner was put to death.
