CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Western Athletics Conference has announced the Preseason polls and All-Conference list for the 2022-23 men's basketball season. The Thunderbirds are entering their first season as members of the WAC and are picked to finish ninth this season.

Southern Utah is coming off a very successful season a year ago. The Thunderbirds finished 23-12 overall including a 14-6 finish in their final season in the Big Sky Conference. The T-Birds were most successful at home sporting a 13-3 record when playing in Cedar City.

The Thunderbirds had two Individuals who were also named to the preseason All-Conference teams. Senior guard Tevian Jones was named to the preseason First Team All-WAC, and Maizen Fausett, a Senior Forward, was named to the Second Team.

Jones finished last season with just more than 14 points a game. He scored a Team best 36 points in a game against Portland State. He is expected to be a leader on the court for the Thunderbirds this season.

Fausett averaged almost 12 points per game last season. He was a force for the T-Birds on the boards leading the team in rebounds with 267 rebounds. Fausett was also third on the team in blocks last season.

There is a lot to look forward to as the Thunderbirds enter their first season in the WAC. Southern Utah will open the season on the road at University of New Mexico on Nov. 7 before making their Home debut on the 10th of November when they will take on University of La Verne in the America First Event Center.
