Application Period For Unique Big Game Hunting Opportunity Starts Soon

The state of Utah offers sportsman permits, and they are some of the most prized hunting permits available. The time to apply for the 2024 permits is coming up soon.

Utah residents can begin the application process on Wednesday, October 18^th at 8 a.m. You can apply for the permits online or on the phone by calling the nearest regional office of the Division of Wildlife Resources. In Cedar City the phone number is 435 865 6100.

To be included in the permit drawing, you must submit your phone application by 5PM or the online application no later that 11 p.m. on Wednesday November 8^th. People who draw a sportsman permit can hunt on almost every hunting unit in the state that is open to the species that they draw out for.

Any Utahn can apply for as species as they like, but only one sportsman permit will be issued per species.10 species are included in the sportsman permits including Bison, Black Bear, Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep and Wild Turkey.

Applicants can not use bonus points in the sportsman drawing, and these permits are only available to residents of Utah. All applicants must reach the age of twelve by the end of the year in which the permit is issued. Hunters must be at least twelve to hunt for the big game species. There are, however, no age restrictions on hunting turkey.

A valid hunting or combination license is also required for any of the sportsman permits.

There is a non-refundable ten dollar application fee to apply for each species. Anyone who successfully draws a permit can expect to pay anywhere from $40 to $564. Drawing results should be available on or before November 15^th. Successful applicants will be notified by email.
