Didn’t Draw Out? There’s Still A Chance For A Big Game Permit

Didn't draw out for a big game permit this year and feeling bummed out? Well, you may have another chance. The last chance to obtain a permit starts next week. Permits will be limited, and they will be available on a first come first served basis.

General season archery elk permits will go on sale on Tuesday, July 11^th at 8AM. The general season archery elk permits are unlimited. Youth general season elk permits will also be available at 8AM on July 11^th.

New this year is that youth permits will allow any youth – 17 years old or younger as of July 31^st of this year – to hunt all of the general season elk hunts including archery, muzzleloader, and both any legal weapon season in both spike and any bull hunting units. The youth hunter will just need to use to appropriate weapon and harvest the applicable animal for that hunting unit.

General season any bull elk permits for adults will be available starting at 8AM on Thursday, July 13^th. This year, the bull elk hunt is split into two seasons. The early season hunt will be October 7^th through the 13^th and offers 15,000 permits. The late season hunt will be October 14^th through the October 20^th and has an unlimited number of permits. The muzzleloader hunt is November 1^st through the 9^th and will have a total of 15,000 permits.

As far as deer permits go, the general season buck deer permits that remain after the big game drawing will be available after 8AM on Tuesday, July 18^th. But you'll have to act quickly, there are only going to be 76 permits available.

Limited entry buck deer, pronghorn and over the counter bison permits will be available also beginning at 8AM on Tuesday, July 11^th. There are only two limited buck deer, and two limited entry pronghorn permits available. Nine Mile hunting unit bison permits are unlimited. You must, however, complete and online orientation course before you can purchase one of the bison permits.

People interested on buying a permit can purchase it online, at a DWR office or from any available from any license agent. Because permits go on sale at 8AM, you should be sure to check the hours of the nearest available agent before traveling there.
